The most widely used reference for bacterial classification is Bergey’s manual of systematic bacteriology, now published in different forms. In first form includes mainly the families or “ordinary” gram-negative chemoheterotrophic cubacteris many of which have clinical, inductrial or agricultural importance. If motility is present, the fue-swmming type rather than the gliding type. The organisms are mainly heterotrophic but some can grow autotrophically in the presence of H2. Some are saprophytes, others are parasites, some are highly pathogenic often cause disease, others may be opportunistic pathogens. Gram negative bacteria consist of two types namely aerobic and an aerobic gram negative bacterium.
